| "When
the prairie here blooms in the spring, there is nothing like it.
It means the world to me that I can protect that moment for all
time by putting this land into the right hands."
—Landowner who has donated a remnant of significant prairie
land to a local land trust
There are several legal tools a landowner can
use to protect conservation values on his or her property. Several
of those tools require working with a land trust. In some cases,
landowners, land trusts, and a public agency—like the state
Department of Natural Resources—may work together to ensure
long-term protection and management of natural resources. In all
cases, land protection starts with conversations among landowners
and land protection organizations about their goals for important
properties and which protection tools make the most sense.
We provide one-on-one advising for landowners
to learn about their land conservation options.
Gathering Waters Conservancy also gives presentations
at conferences and events around the state. If you are interested
in having a staff member talk about land conservation, land trusts,
conservation easements, or our regional partnerships at your event,
contact us at info@gatheringwaters.org.
