Chainsaw Safety Level 1

The Leopold Center 8:30 AM - 5:30 PM
Hosted by the Aldo Leopold Foundation. This course is certified through the Safety and Woods Worker (SAWW) training program and part of a four-level series designed to increase the safety and efficiency of chainsaw use. The hands-on training and close supervision give participants the opportunity and confidence to fell at least one tree. Level 1 focuses on introducing the participant to open face felling and the development of techniques to safely use it. Topics covered include personal protective equipment, chainsaw safety features, chainsaw reactive forces, bore cutting, pre-planning the fell, and understanding hinge wood strength. Hosted by the Aldo Leopold Foundation. Explore the Leopold Shack and Farm on a tour led by one of our knowledgeable guides! Hear stories about the incredible land restoration initiated here by Aldo Leopold and his family, visit the inside of the famous Shack, and stroll along restored prairie, woods, and river trails with our guide. Chainsaw Safety Level 2

Hosted by the Aldo Leopold Foundation. This Chainsaw Safety Level 2 course is certified through the Safety and Woods Worker (SAWW) training program and part of a four-level series designed to increase the safety and efficiency of chainsaw use. The hands-on training and close supervision gives participants the opportunity and confidence to fell at least one tree. Chainsaw Safety Level 2 focuses on saw sharpening and maintenance, more advanced felling techniques, use of wedges, and felling accuracy. All participants will get to fell one or more trees under the supervision of instructors. You must complete Level 1 to attend this class. Please register online.
