Restoring Nature’s Balance Walk

Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal Nature Preserve, 5340 Lake Ln Sturgeon Bay, 54235  3:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Join Door County Land Trust for a walk along the easy-to-moderate terrain of the preserve’s shoreline, and learn about the ways that the Land Trust is helping to restore nature’s balance along the canal, from large-scale invasive plant removal, to wildlife population surveys, to monitoring the endangered plants that grow in this unique coastal landscape. This event is free and offered for members only.

Pass the Paella Dinner and Concert with Julian Hagen and Friends

Begin a stirring evening with sangria and fine wines, followed by gazpacho and Spanish paella, served in the restored barn at Woodwalk Gallery. Mingle and take in the native landscaping, artistically designed grounds, and gallery of Wisconsin artists. Following dinner, singer songwriter Julian Hagen joins us from Washington Island with original music that celebrates the land and life of Door County. This event is open to the public, and tickets to benefit Door County Land Trust can be purchased online.

International Culinary Tour

Join Door County Land Trust as they begin the tour in Italy for hors d’oeuvres. The soup course will take you to Spain and from there you fly to South America for a colorful, refreshing salad. Cuba is now open to American travelers, so the main entrée features a traditional Cuban dish. The tour ends back in Europe for a classic French dessert and cafe. This event is offered for members only, and tickets can be purchased online.

Regal Fritillary Butterflies at Military Ridge, Iowa County

Military Ridge Prairie Heritage Area 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Join The Nature Conservancy land manager Caleb Klima for a hike through the prairie in search of the rare regal fritillary butterfly. No sightings promised, but chances are good in July when regals take wing. The prairie will be in bloom, so wildflower sightings are likely, and Caleb will share the story of 20 years of citizen science monitoring of regals. Register by July 19.

The ancient shorelines, wind-swept dunes, wetlands and forests of the Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal are home to a rich diversity of wildlife. Since acquiring this property, the Door County Land Trust has focused on restoring the ecosystem to its natural resilient state, with particular emphasis on the rare and endangered plants that make their home here. This event is free and offered to members only.
