Wisconsin's
Land Legacy Report
The Wisconsin Land Legacy Report identifies
229 critical areas to be preserved across the state and suggests
eight major steps Wisconsin should take to retain its natural heritage.
It can serve as a compass, blueprint and road
map to guide land conservation and outdoor recreation for the next
50 years. While outlining key critical regions, the report does
not recommend specific land-use regulation or land acquisition.
Conservation groups worked with the Wisconsin
Department of Natural Resources for nearly three years to get public
input from across the state.
The full report (Publication number LF-040-2006)
is available for $15 plus tax at your local DNR
Service Center or can be ordered through the state's Document
Sales Office at 800/362-7253. The Document Sales Office charges
an additional $8 for shipping and handling, plus tax, and accepts
Visa and MasterCard.
2005-2010 Wisconsin Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor
Recreation Plan (SCORP)
Many factors affect the supply, demand, and participation
rates of outdoor recreation in Wisconsin. Since 1965 the state
has developed and maintained the Statewide
Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP) in an attempt to classify, measure, and
ultimately provide for the preferences and needs of a statewide
recreating public.
The SCORP plan is done every 5 years to identify
essential issues that affect the future of Wisconsin outdoor recreation
and includes appropriate recommendations.
For a downloadable copy of the full SCORP report,
visit the DNR's SCORP
website or call Jeff Prey at (608) 266-2182.
Wildlife Action Plan
This plan, also known as the comprehensive Wildlife
Conservation Plan, is the result of a statewide effort to identify
which of our native Wisconsin species are of greatest conservation
need. The Action Plan presents priority conservation actions to
protect the species and their habitats. The Plan also:
• Ensures
that Wisconsin remains eligible for federal funding from the State
Wildlife Grants Program, a federal program that provides funds
to prevent species and habitats from becoming threatened or endangered.
• Sets
priorities for the continued allocation of State Wildlife Grants
funds in Wisconsin.
• Provides guidance and information, including a reference database,
for government agencies, tribes, and the full range of public
and private partners to use to support their conservation efforts.
For the full report, visit the DNR's Wildlife
Action Plan website or call Tara
Bergeson at (608) 264-6043.
