Discover the beautiful forests at the Lautenbach Woods Nature Preserve located on the Niagara Escarpment–the backbone of Door County’s celebrated landscape. This preserve hosts boreal, northern hardwood, and wet forests which provide excellent habitat for a host of plants and animals. Hike with the Door County Land Trust through the escarpment, consider forest succession, and discuss how to identify pioneer and understory species, as well as the trees that make up the canopy.
