2003 Policy Maker of the Year: Alderman Don Dorsan

Alderman Dorsan has been a champion of the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District’s Conservation Plan in Franklin.  Don supports conservation of key properties identified in Franklin and was instrumental in the purchase of the 70-acre Victory Creek property.  Victory Creek had a preliminary plat that proposed 125 houses, but Don worked hard with the City Council and the developer to move the sale of the property to the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District.  One of the most impressive things about Don is his willingness to learn about conservation and to implement these new ideas.

When it comes to proactive politicians Alderman Dorsan is making a difference. Alderman Dorsan has worked on, supported and presented to Council ordinances on increased wetland setbacks, plant rescue, woodland protection, noxious weeds, the Conservation Fund land purchase by MMSD and more.  Each of these policies are now protecting our coastal waters and the lands of Southeastern Wisconsin.

Root-Pike WIN’s experience with Alderman Don Dorsan is through our review of the Lake Pointe Homeowners Association proposal. One of the first items that impressed our group was the amount of “homework” Mr. Dorsan and the other homeowners did ahead of time. They researched native plants, landscape design, stormwater flow and habitat issues to determine the best course of action for the retention pond in their subdivision.
