805-Acre Bacon Coulee Protected Forever Through Conservation Easement

Wooded area with leaves covering most of the ground.

Joe and Betsy Bacon, supporters of Landmark Conservancy, placed their 801-acre property in a conservation easement with the land trust to ensure that the property will remain intact and be forever protected beyond their ownership.

“To know that this beautiful valley that we worked so hard to obtain and protect will remain intact for future generations to enjoy means everything to us!” Joe said.

The Bacons first bought bought 160 acres in Spring Valley in 1974, then added more acreage over the years. They planted thousands of trees annually, starting in 1981 and estimate they have planted 150,000 trees.

The landscape includes steep, rocky cliffs, natural springs, forested areas with pines, oaks, and maples, and some agricultural land that is leased to a local farmer who uses sustainable practices.
