Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 28th, and make plans to join us for GWC’s 5th Annual Land Legacy Gathering in Milwaukee. This event is our opportunity to recognize you! — our friends and supporters who make our important work possible. Be our guest as we tour some of the most significant urban conservation sites in the state. Attendees will enjoy:
4:00 – 6:00 Guided hike of the Beerline Trail and Wheelhouse Property(dress for the weather – we’ve learned over the past four years of hosting this event that this date almost always includes rain!)
These two sites in urban Milwaukee have been protected by the River Revitalization Foundation. The conversion of this once blighted site into a riverfront park is very special for urban dwellers, who now have improved access to additional greenspace in the city and the river valley system of trails. The hike will include a celebration and ribbon-cutting of the newly completed Kiwanis Landing, providing improved public access to the Milwaukee River. This “gateway” site attracts anglers, hikers, bikers and paddlers to the 800 acre river valley, protected for all to enjoy.
6:00 – 8:00 Land Legacy Gathering reception at The Hamilton
The event culminates with a reception at The Hamilton featuring savory, locally-sourced hors d’oeuvres where guests will hear from, and mingle with, land trust leadership.
Each year we co-host the Land Legacy Gathering with a local land trust. This year we’re thrilled to partner with the River Revitalization Foundation, Milwaukee’s urban rivers land trust, as well as our national counterpart, the Land Trust Alliance. By partnering with these two organizations, we’re offering attendees the opportunity to learn how their support is advancing the land trust movement locally, statewide, and nationally.
