Door County Land Trust Acquires 6-Acre Property in Ellison Bay

The Door County Land Trust (DCLT) acquired 6 acres of land adjacent to Grand View Park in Ellison Bay. The land belonged to Barbara and Don Fuhrmann since 2000 when the couple purchased the property with the goal of preserving it forever.

“We wanted to honor the original owner’s wishes to protect the land from development,” said property owner Don Fuhrmann. “We bought it so no one else would build on it.”

The Fuhrmanns approached the land trust to purchase the property at the price they paid for it, far less than its value today.

“The Door County Land Trust is honored to ensure that their {the Fuhrmanns} long-held dream of permanent conservation will endure,” says DCLT’s Executive Director Emily Wood.

The land trust first purchased 16 acres of Grand View Park in 2012 with funding from private donations, the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program, and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s Scenic Byways Fund. This six-acre addition expands the ecological diversity of the park.
