The Door County Land Trust purchased 63.3 acres just north of Sturgeon Bay bordering the already protected Kellner Fen Natural Area. This recent purchase will extend the protection of water quality and wildlife in this rare wetland habitat, according to this news release.

Kellner Fen is a critical breeding habitat for the Hine’s dragonfly, and is one of 11 areas identified as such, in Door County, according to the Green Bay Press Gazette.

“Really unique species use this property, and we’ll be able to protect that so that they can continue to do that forever,” said Executive Director of the Door County Land Trust, Emily Wood to NBC 26.
