Join mushroom expert Charlotte Lukes on a 1.25-mile stroll through the Door County Land Trust’s Lautenbach Woods Nature Preserve. As the days shorten and the temperatures cool, Door County’s forests transform into a wonderland of fall color. For those who know where to look, the appearance of ephemeral and mysterious fungi can be a spectacle rivaling the famed spring wildflower bloom. Lautenbach Woods’ hardwood forests and stands of confiners are a habitat perfect for fall fungi.
Trails are moderately challenging, with an incline along the bluff slope. A hiking pole would be helpful if you have one for the incline. Please wear good walking shoes.
