Geneva Lake Conservancy (GLC) has been working with homeowners in Walworth County to plant native species within their own yards as a way to create habitats for wildlife. The land trust’s “Keep it Blue” program is an initiative to help landowners limit the use of herbicides and fertilizers on their lawns to lower the amount of phosphorous in watersheds.

“Acre by acre we are actually improving the ecosystem here,” says GLC’s conservation program specialist, Carol Elkins.

To date, GLC has worked with more than 220 sites around the county since 2020.
