Governor-elect Tony Evers and Lt. Governor-elect Mandela Barnes are traveling across the state over the next 10 days to hear what Wisconsinites want included in the next state budget. They call it the “Building the People’s Budget” tour.
This is a great opportunity for you to share your thoughts about the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program. You can attend a listening session, email the Governor-elect, or post on social media.
Voice your support for the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program!
Ask the Governor-elect to renew and strengthen the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program, Wisconsin’s best source of funding for land and water protection.
We want elected officials to know that there is one issue Wisconsinites agree on; we want enough money in the state budget to make sure our land and water is protected. Every single county in Wisconsin has benefited from the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program.
What should you say?
Tell Governor-elect Evers you want him to renew the Stewardship Program for 10 years and increase the annual funding for the program.
Share a personal story about how the program has impacted you and your community – through improvements of public areas, through trail development, or through the creation of public parks and natural areas. Email us at advocate@gatheringwaters.org and we’ll give you some examples of which projects Knowles-Nelson funded in your area.
The benefits of the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program far outweigh the cost. Nearly every dollar that the state invests in conservation is matched by the federal government, local government, or private contributions, making the Stewardship Program one of the best investments the state makes in our future.
