Ice Age Trail Alliance Acquires Land to Grow in Manitowoc and Waupaca Counties

The Ice Age Trail Alliance (IATA) acquired two properties in Manitowoc and Waupaca Counties that will be part of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail.

This purchase will close gaps between protected areas and expand others, such as the Brownrigg-Heier Preserve and a park property in Manitowoc County.

“Our map for this area used to look a lot like a checkerboard, but over time, it has become much more unified,” says Kevin Thusius, Director of Land Conservation for the Alliance. “Now, these uninterrupted acres can benefit from a cohesive management plan that promotes healthy habitats for native plant and animal species.”

Hikers will get to experience more terrain and have more recreational space with the new acquisitions.
