Southern Wisconsin Bird Alliance is the new name of the land trust formerly known as Madison Audubon.
With the same goal of conservation, the organization chose a new name on February 1, 2024 after a successful vote by their membership.
The name change is in response to concerns about John James Audubon’s racist history. Southern Wisconsin Bird Alliance is one of several local chapters of the National Audubon Society to complete a name change.
Southern Wisconsin represents the 10 counties in the southern part of the state where the organization works, and Bird Alliance describes the heart of the work they do, which is bird conservation.
