MVC in the News

As the service center for Wisconsin’s land trusts, we love nothing more than seeing them succeed.  This week it was our pleasure to see news about the Mississippi Valley Conservancy (MVC) popping up in many different places.

La Crosse Magazine wrote a piece on snowshoeing for its November/December issue.  Tim Jacobson, Executive Director of the Mississippi Valley Conservancy was interviewed about where to spend time outside this winter.  Jacobson recounted a snowshoe tour to Tunnelville Cliffs State Natural Area last year.  “We had a clear blue sky and tons of fresh snow.  No evidence of civilization could be seen or heard.”  That’s about all he needs to say to get us out to that piece of MVC protected land.

This fall’s edition of Woodlands and Prairies magazine features an article on Jim and Rose Sime.  The Simes are dogged prairie preservationists who have worked with MVC to protect their land in the Driftless Area.  They have been tirelessly saving rare plants from invasive species since the mid-60s and are now figuring out who will protect their sand prairies in the future.  It looks like they’ve found a great partner in the Mississippi Valley Conservancy.

Additionally, on Friday, December 3rd, Tim will be interviewed on WRDT Radio (91.9 FM) in Viroqua along with conservation easement holder, Maggie Jones.  For those of you who can’t tune in live or are too far away, you can hear Tim and Maggie’s interview online at wdrt.org.

It’s great to see Wisconsin’s land trusts getting the attention they deserve.  Keep up the good work!
