New Hiking Trail Constructed on Iola Winter Sports Club Property

Hikers will soon have a new stretch of Ice Age National Scenic Trail to enjoy in northern Waupaca County, thanks to volunteers that helped construct a hiking trail on the Iola Winter Sports Club property.

The previous trail system was shared by hikers and cross-country skiers, and a stretch of the trail was off limits to hikers in the winter. The new section of trail will be accessible to hikers year-round.

The trailbuilding project, which took place in June, was part of the Ice Age Trail Alliance’s Mobile Skills Crew program, which brings together volunteers from around the state to help maintain existing trail and build new sections of trail. More than 100 volunteers showed up June 22-26 to help build the trail in Waupaca County that spans one and a half miles, and to reopen a nearby stretch of trail in Portage County.
