Protecting the Bats of the Kickapoo Caverns

Inside a darkly lit cave with a high ceiling.

Wisconsin Life featured the Kickapoo Caverns in a story. This cave system is part of 80 acres protected by Mississippi Valley Conservancy in Crawford County. The land trust purchased the property in 2017, which is open to the public year-round, including cave tours in the warmer months.

The cave is important for the four species of bats that live in Wisconsin year-round, as it provides a safe place for them to hibernate.
