The Nature Conservancy in Wisconsin Protects More Land in Central Sands

The Nature Conservancy (TNC) acquired 308 acres within Adams County to add to their ongoing Central Sands Project, which currently protects 3,243 acres of land.

This acquisition will safeguard the bottomland hardwood forests within the area, which are on a decline and hold a lot of biological diversity.

TNC’s Hannah Butkiewicz, who is the Central Sands Project manager, says, “Not only is this an opportunity to protect this particular habitat, it adds to the growing network of lands in Central Wisconsin that animals and plants can use to move around and adapt as needed. These are refuges for a wide range of species.”

The new tract will be open to the public for recreation, but there are no designated trails or parking areas.
