State officials and conservation groups recently toured the Clay Bluffs Cedar Gorge Nature Preserve. The tour, led by Ozaukee County Director of Planning & Parks Andrew Struck, showcased the preserve’s ecological importance and community value. State Sen. Duey Stroebel, State Rep. Paul Melotik, and State Senate candidate Jodi Habush Sinykin joined staff from Ozaukee Washington Land Trust (OWLT) and Gathering Waters.
The preserve features nearly three-quarters of a mile of undeveloped Lake Michigan shoreline. A Master Plan for the preserve outlines various initiatives, including ecological restoration, vegetation management for erosion control and invasive species, passive-use low-impact recreation, education and outreach programs, and plans for future improvements.
The tour emphasized how innovative partnerships have led to the permanent protection of this important natural area. It demonstrated the preserve’s value as both an ecological resource and a community asset, underscoring the importance of collaborative efforts in conservation.
