The Ice Age Trail Alliance held a multi-day trail building event along the Hemlock Creek Trail, which is part of the 1,200 mile long Ice Age Trail.
The bridges and boardwalks needed to be replaced due to frost creating uneven surfaces underneath, making it unsafe for hikers. About 70 volunteers from across the state helped remove the previous structures and secure the banks of rivers and creeks.
Miranda Murphy, the Ice Age Trail Alliance’s operations assistant said in regard to the support of volunteers: “This trail wouldn’t exist without them. They are the ones who come out and build the trail. It’s the chapters that maintain it.”
