Welcome to 2024 Wisconsin Land Trust Days!

Gathering Waters presents Wisconsin Land Trust Days, featuring events hosted by Wisconsin land trusts in July, August, and September!

In 2024, we’re excited to promote a total of 45 events hosted by 20 land trusts.

We hope you join the land trust community for this 7th annual celebration of the land trust community. Land trusts do important work protecting Wisconsin’s land, water, and wildlife.

Attending an event is a great way to spend time outside, connect with your local land trust, or discover a new spot in a different part of the state.

Find a list of 2024 Land Trust Days here.

Below are just a few fun things you can do this summer during Land Trust Days:

  • Hike Wisconsin’s prairies, forests, and bluffs
  • Cycle through beautiful countryside
  • Help build part of the historic Ice Age National Scenic Trail
  • Learn about cave and bat ecology
  • Search for plants and pollinators
  • Capture nature with your camera or sketchbook
  • Forage for mushrooms
  • Soothe your soul with forest bathing and outdoor yoga
  • Collect native prairie seeds
  • Hop on a boat cruise for conservation, and more

If you’re not able to attend an event, you can make your own adventure or visit one of our favorite protected properties.

Our featured destination for this year is the Driftless Trail, an ongoing project of Driftless Area Land Conservancy with a goal of connecting three state parks in Iowa County through a 50-mile hiking loop. Four trail segments are currently open: one north of Dodgeville, one north of Ridgeway, and two on the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation’s Taliesin estate south of Spring Green. Learn more about the trail and find maps and guides here.

Get ready for your adventure with the Land Trust Days Calendar and Wisconsin Nature Guide

Request a printed calendar of events and we’ll send it to you in the mail for free! The calendar also features some additional information about land conservation news and activities around the state.

Request a free Wisconsin Nature Guide. This weatherproof, laminated pocket guide will help you identify many common plants, animals, and other wildlife as you explore Wisconsin’s natural places.

Ask your legislators to be champions for nature

Wisconsin’s Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program is how we protect our land and water. Many of the places you can visit during Land Trust Days were funded by Knowles-Nelson grants. But funding for the program is about to run out unless legislators renew the program in the next state budget.

Speak up and ask your legislators to champion renewed funding for Knowles-Nelson. It only takes a minute and every voice counts! Visit Action.KnowlesNelson.org.
