Wisconsin’s (and GWC’s) Summer Tradition: A Trip Up-North

For so many of us in Wisconsin, summer isn’t complete without a trip Up North. A cool evening among the lakes and forests listening to the loons join our conversations with family and friends is one of Wisconsin’s many special outdoor traditions.

At Gathering Waters Conservancy, we have embraced this tradition by scheduling our July board meeting somewhere in Wisconsin’s Northwoods every year.  As a statewide organization, it’s important to directly connect with the special people and places we work so hard to serve.  To this end, our board members come from every corner of Wisconsin and we strive to rotate our board meetings to be sure everyone gets a chance to show off their backyard.  And, July is certainly the best time to be in our big northern backyard.

This year, Rhinelander was the destination and after our quarterly discussion of strategic plan progress, board and staff retreated to a lakeshore cook-out hosted by board member, Kimberly Gleffe.  Many board members  made a vacation of the trip bringing their families along for stays at nearby resorts or visits to the family cottage. We hope you have the chance to visit this special part of Wisconsin as well.

The land trust in this area is the Northwoods Land Trust.  They’re celebrating their 10th anniversary next weekend and we encourage you to check it out.
