A qualified charitable distribution (QCD) allows individuals with an annual required minimum distribution (RMD) to transfer funds from their Individual Retirement Account (IRA) to a charitable institution (such as Gathering Waters).

A contribution to Gathering Waters is an easy and convenient way to make a gift from one of your major assets, tax-free. It can be excluded from your gross income and counts towards your required minimum distribution.

For your contribution to qualify, you must be 70 1/2 or older. The transfer must go directly from your IRA to Gathering Waters. Your total IRA contribution(s) in one year cannot exceed $100,000. And no goods or services may be received for the gift (don't worry - we'll see to that).

Please note: For a QCD to count toward the current year's RMD, the funds must come out of your IRA by your RMD deadline, which is generally December 31 each year.

Send your QCD to Gathering Waters at: 211 S. Paterson Street, Suite 270, Madison, WI 53703.

Did you know? Human beneficiaries of traditional IRAs are taxed on any funds inherited from an IRA. However, nonprofit organizations, such as Gathering Waters, are not taxed on beneficiary distributions from an IRA. Consider leaving your IRA to a charity and other assets you hold to your loved ones instead.

For more information click here to be redirected to our Legacy Giving page. (This does not apply to Roth IRAs.)

Gathering Waters accepts donations through your donor-advised fund (DAF). Pledges to Gathering Waters are legally non-binding and, therefore, DAF distributions may go toward a pledge with Gathering Waters. When you make a Donor Advised Fund gift, it's possible that the sponsoring organization will not share your information with us. Please fill out this form when you've made a gift so we can make sure to thank you and ensure that your gift gets to where it is intended.
